Barcelona Tourist Guide - Barcelona Bars
IntroductionThis is a brief guide to some of the better bars in Barcelona, focusing on those where English speakers are most likely to find familiar sports and food; it is by no means a list of all the bars in Barcelona!
C/ Mallorca, 204
93 451 5043
The Philharmonic is a more versatile Pub, with many options of entertainment for the public, offering activities such as Line Dance 'Country' & Swing, a Pub Quiz, live music by popular artists from both national and international scenes. Where local people get along happily with ex-pats mostly British with a generous sprinkling of U.S.A. citizens and many other nationalities, besides offering a rich and varied food menu.
The George and Dragon
C/ Diputació, 269
93 488 1765
The George & Dragon is one the few English pubs in Barcelona that is also owned and managed by English, and prides itself on serving authentic English food alongside a selection of popular local tapas. Fancy a full English breakfast, fish n chips, bangers and mash or steak and ale pie? The George serves them all, as well as providing a proper Sunday roast that has become a most popular attraction.
C/ Casanova, 264
93 201 1606
Very popular traditional bar just off the Diagonal, in posh Sarria. It has live music every weekend, friendly staff and a lot of regulars. Good place to pick the brains of the local settled expat population. Nicely decorated the atmosphere is cosy and personal. Caters for all sports, and serves Irish pub grub.
Kennedy's Irish Sailing Bar
Moll Mestral 26-27-28, Port Olímpic
93 2210 039
The only Irish bar in the Port Olimpic area. Right in the heart of the ‘strip’ Kennedys is an oasis amongst the other more salsa driven bars around it. Spacious traditional bar and terrace with good live music from midnight most nights. Caters for all the sports and is open until 5am on Friday and Saturday which would make it officially the latest pint of Guinness in town.
Pl. Joaquim Xirau
Centrally located at the bottom of the Ramblas this well decorated big bar is well known for its good food. With a great Irish breakfast and the famous Sunday roast. Popular for sports and also has regular live music.
C/ Tallers, 72
93 412 4636
One of the first Irish bars around the centre. The focus is on music also has internet faility so you can surf while you slurp. Centrally located on Tallers it has good food, live music and well liked happy hour. Close to Pl. Universitat so lots of students and young expats.
c/ Ros de Olano, 10
93 601 3670
Unique amongst Irish bars in Barcelona. This gem is located in Gracia, one of Barcelonas more bohemian barrios. A real shebeen atmosphere impossible not to get up close and personal with the regulars. Lots of activities, from Irish classes to a comedy club. Owners a bit eccentric as well, a dubliner surprisingly.
c/ Ample 28
93 310 3301
Centrally located in the heart of the Barrio Gothic, Ryans is a comfortable traditional bar and can be the perfect spot to take a break while enjoying the sights of the old town. Has regular live music and great place to watch all sports. Landladys a Westmeath woman!
Via Laietana 44
One of Barcelonas newest Irish bars is well located right on one of Barcelonas main downtown arteries Via Laietana. It is a modern, stylish bar where Mayoman and owner Ken proclaims the focus is on good chat and craic. Comforatble and very welcoming.
Pg. Joan Borbó, 22
93 295 3005
This one is actually Irish-owned and is one of my favourite pubs. Mainly because of the location, it has an outside terrace to watch people go by, and with views inside to the TV screen, it is the perfect place for a cold pint of guinness after a long hard day sunning yourself! The staff are friendly and mostly English or Irish, and the customers are a varied bunch, however a lot of the regulars are boat people who have made Fastnet their second home. It is the kind of place where I would happily sit at the bar alone and read the paper (they usually have a selection), and be sure that someone would say hi.
Ronda Universitat, 8
93 601 1908
The focus here is sport. One of the main sponsors of the Barcelona Gaels this very central bar has a range of different screens and claims that if its on a channel anywhere he can show it. For a lot of people it can be first point and last point of reference as it is set amongst a lot of hotels. Great pint. The owners a Kerryman who likes horses!
C/ Nau Santa-Maria, 5-7
93 280 3675
The restaurant has a very successful lunchtime trade, offering a mixture of traditional Irish dishes and international cuisine, as well as a la carte menu in the evening. Also, the bar is well stocked with the best of Irish whiskeys, beers and of course the ever popular Irish coffee which always goes down well. Due to it's proximity to the Nau Camp FC Barcelola Stadium, Kitty's is one of the meeting points for Barca football fans. A few drinks before the match to get into the spirit and, afterwards back to celebrate / commiserate, depending on the result.
Banys Vells, 15
93 315 1810
La Fianna (Gaelic for warrior) was established in 2003 by Robby Dunne and Bridgit Barbour. This seductive, funky retreat puts the beat in the heart of the Born and serves a truly international cuisine drawn from the flavours of 8 countries including Japan, Morocco and Thailand. Cool tunes set the vibe to the city’s liveliest cocktail bar, whilst a selection of chill out beds and velvety sofas provide the perfect ambience to wile away the evening with friends and lovers.
The Black Horse
C/ Allada Vermell, 16
93 268 3338
Situated at the heart of Barcelona in the Ribera district, the Black Horse is found between the Cuidadela Parc and Vía Laietana in a commercial pedestrian area only a few metres away from the Picasso Museum. This up-and-coming area has recently been given a face-lift by the local government and this has created a rejuvenated feel.
Plaça Santa Caterina, 2
93 268 0850
A welcoming bar close to Plaça Jaume I, La Lupara has plenty of quality entertainment, with all major sporting events covered as well as dj sessions, plus pool table and darts. Decent pub grub, including the favourite toasties and full English breakfasts, plus a wide range of imported and local beers.
The Wooden Spoon
Divided on 3 levels, this is a large yet cosy pub. The downstairs deserves a special mention, a refurbished original cellar with oak barrel tables and Irish memorabilia on the walls. The great air conditioning system also makes this an ideal place to escape to when the temperatures start soaring. You can catch all the big sports games live on 5 plasma TVs.
The Queen Vic
Nou de la Rambla, 24
93 324 3222
Located in Nou de la Rambla street number 24 (see our website), very close to the Ramblas, the nerve center of Barcelona, in The Queen Vic you will find the essence of the traditional English tavern. So if you want to feel at home, among friends, just come and you won't be disappointed. We have a wide variety of beers, including draught and bottled, and both English and international beers.
The George Payne
Pl Urquinaona 5
93 421 5294
A new concept that brings together Irish bar tradition and a sophisticated world cuisine restuarant. George Payne offers 5 fully equipped and uniquely designed bars, 7 fifty inch plasma television screens, and an excellent bar menu served all day.
C/ Aurora 7
This is a true jewel in the heart of one of Barcelona's top nightlife districts, the Raval. Their seriously good selection of tunes get many people up off their chairs and shakin' it all on the dance floor. Or maybe its those deftly mixed cocktails - you haven't lived til you've tried Antonio´s delicious capirinhas, mojitos and piña coladas.
C/Blasco de Garay 15
93 443 2444
A Nordic bar where you can choose from a huge range of flavoured Absolut vodkas, licorice liquors, Scandanavian beers and sweet ciders. There's also a Nordic deli with the speciality Skaenrore, and TV in Swedish.
